For decades working on Jell-O commercials, print and packaging shoots, I was mesmerized by jewel colored gelatin cubes shimmered as light refracted trough their facets. I created this video in my head before high speed film was used in commercial TV. Ten years later I was able to make the video thanks to a Phantom camera capturing moving images at 3000 frames per second. Playing back at 30 fps slows each image, revealing the graceful dancing, crashing, changing forms which miraculously reform into their original shapes.
Shot in high speed on a phantom camera - Joy is a mesmerizing tale told with dazzling dancing jewel colored gelatin cubes of shimmering light with melodic music. Created, Art directed and Food Styled by artist Marilinda Hodgdon, shot by Steve Romano, director/DP and owner of Velocity Media Studios, edited by Bob Solywoda. Song called Lazarus by Porcupine Tree.
