World-class winemaker Robert Mondavi wanted to break barriers with a limited edition launch of their MCMLXVI Collection. They produced just 1,966 bottles showcasing three new wines in unique Bernardaud French porcelain to be sold exclusively through the purchase of NFTs—a first for the wine industry. - Expectation - Specializing in wine bottle photography, Robert Mondavi Winery commissioned Timothy Hogan Studio for their advertising photography to highlight the luxury of the porcelain bottles by magnifying the craftsmanship while validating the exclusivity of the product itself—bridging the likes of a legendary winemaker, a centuries-old French porcelain master and our Los Angeles product photography studio. The challenge was to highlight the luxury of the porcelain bottles by magnifying the craftsmanship of each bottle to validate the exclusivity of the product itself. - The Approach - The lighting setup in our tabletop studio was critical in capturing the quality and craftsmanship of the porcelain bottles. Controlling the amount of reflection was essential to highlight product details. Because the bottles are a circular mirror (reflecting everything around them), two distinct sets were designed to both light the bottles beautifully and add reflections to purposefully communicate the mirrored nature of these unique bottles.
